Spotting Errors

Find out the errors, if any 

(1) I am senior / than him / by two years./No error 

 Answer:- senior is usually used with the preposition ''to'' 

(2) When I finished  writing the letter,/ I could not help admiring myself / to have achieved the impossible./No error 

Answer:- 'when' should be substituted with 'after' because the second part of the sentence took place after the first task was over

(3) I am / glad that you/ are here./No error 

(4) As you know/ that the ignorant / are easily duped./No error 

(5) Pay attention/ to what / I am saying./No error

(6) He was courted / in order to protest against / corruption among the government servants./No error 

(7) Mr. Joshi was, however, sure that / the idea would never work in / practice./ No error 

(8) As I was leaving for Delhi,/ he asked me whether / I could buy a tape recorder for him./ No error 

(9) The boy's parents / pleaded with the Principal / that they were too poor to pay his tuition fee./No error 

Answer:- Question No 3 to Question No 9 , no error 

(10) He will be / cured from / his fever./ No error

Answer:- cured is always followed by 'of' hence error in 2nd part 

(11) Though he is a gifted comedian, / he prefers spend his spare time / watching horror movies./ No error 

Answer:- the verb 'spend' used in the sentence should be 'spending'

(12)  The jug is / made out of / China clay./No error

Answer:- made of is correct

(13) Sita / with all her sisters/ were here./ No error 

Answer:- use 'was' instead of 'were' 

(14) One of the assistant / was/ Alfred./No error

Answer:- one of the + plural subject , assistants is correct form 

(15) Though George is a / honourable man / his activities arouse suspicion./No error 

Answer:- use 'an' before 'honourable 

(16) She told her teacher / that she could not be able to / attend the class the previous day because of heavy rains./ No error 

Answer:- could and able not comes together. correct use is - was not able for ability 

(17) Coleridge as well as Wordsworth / were of the opinion that the opposite of poetry is not prose/ but science./ No error

Answer:- use 'was' in place of 'were

(18) For young Donald, / peace in Vietnam was/ almost terrible as war./No error 

Answer:- as terrible as 

(19) That Brutus, who was his trusted friend / had attacked on him caused heartbreak to / Julius Caesar./No error 

Answer:- attack is not followed by any preposition remove on after attack 


(20) The writer  of this / poetry/ is Wordsworth./ No error 

Answer:- use 'poem' in place of poetry
